Thank you for showing an interest in The PGA Training Programme. I hope that the information provided is informative and provides insight into the education and training that we provide. I also hope that it outlines the exciting range of opportunities that are available. We are incredibly proud of the training programme we deliver, which is recognised globally as world-leading. This programme has become the foundation from which The PGA is built and has developed over the last 50 years.
It is a sophisticated education programme which is delivered in partnership with two leading universities (The University of Birmingham and The University of the Highlands and the Islands) and PGA tutors and coaches who are experts in their field.
Having worked in education for over 30 years, I can vouch for the quality and uniqueness of the training programme.
Fdsc – BSc (Hons) Foundation Degree – Professional Golf Studies
This three-year distance learning programme, delivered by The PGA, is a collaborative foundation degree awarded by the University of Birmingham (part of the prestigious Russell Group) – specifically the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, ranked sixth in the world in 2022.
The Foundation Degree in Professional Golf Studies is a core element of the PGA Training Programme. With a strong focus on golf coaching and sports science, business and finance, equipment technology and custom fitting.
A Foundation Degree equates to the first two years of an Honours Degree. Following the completion of the FdSc, there is an option available to continue with academic study and convert the qualification to BSc (Hons) in Professional Golf Studies.
Our Foundation Degree course actively welcomes international students.
DipHE – BA/BA (Hons) Diploma in Higher Education – Professional Golf
The three-year structured part-time Diploma in Higher Education is delivered by The PGA in partnership with the University of the Highlands and Islands, which has close links with Royal Dornoch Golf Club. It is aimed at those currently employed, or seeking employment, as PGA trainees working full-time at golf facilities across Scotland.
The DipHE covers modules relevant to the varied demands of the golf industry with modules in coaching, equipment technology and custom fitting, sports science, retail and business elements.
A Diploma in Higher Education equates to the first two years of an Honours Degree. Following completion of the DipHE there is an option to continue with academic study and convert the qualification to a BA in Professional Golf, with an option to continue to Hons.
BSc Applied Golf Management Studies
The AGMS BSc is a world-leading golf degree, taught in partnership with the University of Birmingham. Graduates lead the development of golf throughout the world.
The degree covers modules in applied sports science, equipment technology, coaching theory and business management and provides students an opportunity to work within three industry-based placements. Students will select a range of optional modules in year two and three.
The AGMS programme allows you to combine a high-level applied theoretical degree with membership of the PGA (subject to status and application) as a PGA Professional, PGA Coach or PGA Manager.
